Pakistan’s Leading Taxi App Company, Careem, recently launched an ad campaign for its Bike Service. Banners and Billboards displayed a wide array of Ads in different parts of major cities of Pakistan. Most people have found them to be insensitive to cultural issues and morally corrupt. While, some took them lightheartedly and praised Careem for their ingenuity and creative marketing tactics.
One Ad which garnered the most hate, depicted a Bride calling for a Careem Bike to run away from her marriage. Few raised the issue about the Marketing campaigns insensitivity to the reality where Forced marriages are still prevalent in all parts of the country.
The matter got quite a coverage on social media that Federal Minister of Interior called in the CEO of Careem, Mudassar Sheikha to clarify his stance on these objectionable ads.
However, there were other Ads inspired from recent social media trends. People were quick to give Careem credit for their ingenuity and hilarious for the Ad staring a minimalist depiction of the recently captured, but returned IAF Pilot, Abhinandan Varthaman.
Even though, the runaway bride billboard stirred up quite a few emotions. All the other Ads had people laughing their butts off. One scenario most Ladies can relate to is how ‘Topibaaz’ most tailors are, specially when theres a big occasion or holiday. They never seem to finish the work on time or as per requirement. The Ad below touches a bit on that.
Scared of Mommy or Daddys Chamata? Fear no more? Call Careem Bike!
While some called the Ads Morally Corrupt and Cheap reactions to the Runaway Bride Ad weren’t all negative. Some people were quick to call out the hypocrisy in people that have no issue with forcing marriage down their kids throats or this tradition which has plagued society for generations. But getting offended by this billboard is the end of the world?
