Queensland: COVID-19 Coronavirus has infected over 170,000 and killed over 6500 people since its spread over the past few months. With countries like Spain, Italy going into lock down, the US closing its borders to all European states and majority states imposing restrictions on mass gathering and public places, Corona virus has wreaked havoc all around the world. We’ve seen this turn into mass hysteria, with the public hoarding essential supplies, price gauging of those essentials and the markets going into free fall.
While, China has made strides in treating its infected population, no cure for the virus has yet been discovered.
However, some researchers at the Queensland Center for Clinical Research claim that the antidote for COVID-19 already exists. According to Professor David Paterson, who is in charge of the research, claims that two drugs, Chloroquine and Lopinavir which are used to treat malaria and HIV respectively, does eliminate the virus when used together in a test tube.
Side effects of these medications include diarrhea, muscle problems and loss of appetite. Previously, doctors in Thailand were successful in treating the virus, using a cocktail of drugs used to treat HIV.
Professor Paterson and his team are very optimistic about this development and hope they can move to begin testing the drugs in infected individuals in Australia.
